RHS educational events are the last Thursday of every month and are held at the St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1859 McIntyre Street.

27apr7:00 pm- 8:30 pmPath to Wild Foods

Event Details

All the world’s vegetables, fruit and grains commonly consumed these days have their ancestral “roots” as wild plants. Wild plant foods are different than their modern counter-parts, many of which are modified, hybrid versions of wild plants.

This workshop will contain a description of simple remedies for hazards along the trail, and includes a brief discussion of the ethics and risks of wildcrafting. This is followed by a description of a wide variety of parkland and prairie plants and their potential uses along with suggested recipes. Trees and shrubs, herbs, weedy plants, as well as fungus, lichens and mosses are shown to have a wide variety of uses and culinary potential. Poisonous plants are also discussed.

Facilitated by Sandra Walker. Sandra is a plant and landscape ecologist with Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
